Tumblety was the ultimate showman, an openly gay man in unforgiving times, who rose from an Irish American impoverished start in life to amass great riches and who excelled in marketing and advertising.
The self-styled Indian Herb Doctor was in fact a flamboyant charlatan and highly dangerous individual.
The author has obviously done extensive research into these men and many other texts are referenced giving much insight and historical detail.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this very well written and excellent narrated book and I learned a lot. No smoke without fire? Read the book and make up your own mind.
